Joey Ferber is a guitarist and singer-songwriter, whose musical styles merge like the meeting of rivers just north of his home city- St. Louis.

Born into a musical family, Ferber leaned on music from an early age, as a listener and inevitable, as a player. After seeing his dad’s dormant Gibson Es-330 in the basement, Ferber got to work, developing enough skills on the guitar to join his middle school jazz band which had him and his friends on the road, working festivals and jazz clubs before they had hit their teenage years. Since the beginning, Ferber has simultaneously worked as a guitarist for larger bands while also nurturing his undeniable love for writing his own music.

Now, after years of playing professionally, Ferber has become a highly sought after sideman for some of St. Louis’ most creative projects, while also developing a solo act that blends poignant songwriting with instrumental exploration. The combination of the two roles keeps his calendar full- working a range of rooms from bar corners to concert halls and festival stages.

Ferber is fresh off a big 2023 which has ushered in a new era on multiple fronts. The year began with Ferber’s first ever national tour including solo dates that stretched from LA back to the midwest and in October, a debut show at New York City’s historic Rockwood Music Hall. The initial spring run ended with Ferber’s festival debut at True False Film Festival in Columbia, Missouri which had a capacity crowd hanging in through the windows to catch a glimpse of the firepower set that featured a surprise guest- Ferber’s longtime friend and now Kansas City- based drummer, Zach Morrow. The two grew up playing together in the U-City school bands and later on, in the live hip-hop ensemble, LOOPRAT. On the heels of their set at True False Film Fest, they’ve created a duo project, “Joe 2 Morrow,” and are currently working on their debut record.

In September, Ferber’s current tenure with the future funk/avant garde ensemble, Blvck Spvde & the Cosmos came to a point of fruition with their their debut single release, “DOOM,” that coincided with a set at St. Louis’ premier festival: Music at the Intersection. The recording and video session for “DOOM” was produced by St. Louis based roots band Brothers Lazaroff, who over the course of 2023 enlisted Ferber’s services as an instrumentalist at at times as a co-producer for several projects the two partnered on.

All three projects- J2M, the Cosmos, and Bros Laz are ripe for a fruitful 2024 which is sure to see a lineup of great shows and releases.

In addition to his contribution to these projects, in 2023 Ferber released his music on vinyl for the first time, expanded his budding clothing line from exclusively designing hats to including apparel, and made his historic Sheldon Concert Hall debut in December. You’ll have to follow him in real time to stay up to date as there is no shortage of news or opportunities to catch him play.  Ferber’s 2024 schedule will include a balance of performances at his mainstay residencies in St. Louis with touring dates between his several projects. And of course time spent behind the scenes creating and working his many projects towards the point of release.
